Do you want to rear pigs as an enterprise and make a lot of money? The entire public especially workers approaching their retirement, farmers, jobless youths and women are hereby informed that SESURUDEV Association will organize a crash course on INTENSIVE PIG PRODUCTION on Monday 20th February 2012, Wednesday 22nd February 2012 and Friday 24th February 2012, starting each day at 9:00am prompt. The course will be held at SESURUDEV Training Hall at Tom Sawyer Square, NTASEN quarter, Nkwen, Bamenda through Below Foncha.
Any interested person will pay a participation fee of 20.000FCFA. . Each trainee will be given one meal per day and a Certificate of Attendance.
This is an updated and comprehensive course as 18 topics will be taught. It is quite unique in the country as it gives you a concise knowledge on topics like the norms of housing, feeding, mastery of reproduction, economic management, disease control etc. Pig farmers who have had no training are advised to attend in order to remain competitive.
Note that many institutions insist that you show proof of training before you are granted any aid or loan.

EVALUATION REPORT OF THE CRASH COURSE ON POULTRY PRODUCTION and MARKETING of 12/12/11, 14/12/11 and 16/12/11

The 5th Crash Course organised by SESURUDEV on poultry production and marketing effectively took place at our training hall at Tom Sawyer Square, Ntasen, Nkwen, Bamenda on 12/12/11, 14/12/11 and 16/12/11.
Here below are the 18 modules or topics of the crash course: (1) Advantages and constraints (2) Systems of production (3) Hybrids and hybrid vigour (4) Housing and poultry equipment norms (5) Brooding of chicks (6) Environment management norms (7) Feeding norms (8) Basic principles of feed formulation (9) Feed Additives (10) Production and liveability performance norms and indices (11) Culling and debeaking (12) Hygiene (13) Disease prevention programmes (14) Poultry diseases and their treatment (15) Bio-security norms (16) Record keeping (17) Marketing of poultry products (18) Prices and sources of poultry inputs in Cameroon.
The two participants who attended it were quite diligent and assiduous; so they were both granted Certificates of Attendance. Our tradition of asking the participants at the end of the course to freely write down their own remarks and evaluation was respected. Here below are extracts of their very important remarks and suggestions:
1) Mr Tatou Philippe wrote "my impressions on this course were very great. I got every detail concept on poultry. I will try in my own way to establish my own farm. I hereby plead for aid from the Government to assist young talented Cameroonians and the teachers who take their time to give out their knowledge to others".
2) Mr. Nwatum John Atanga wrote "This course is primordial for any poultry farmer who wants to remain sustainable. The course organiser should ask for Government assistance to give the course adequate vulgarisation. Colleges of agriculture should adopt the poultry book as their approved textbook. The course facilitator, Mr. Ajua is a very assiduous and informed master".
Both trainees urged us to organise a crash course on pigs which they promised to attend. They were advised to weekly consult our website and newspaper kiosks in Bamenda to get announcements of our future courses.

CRASH COURSES OF SESURUDEV

To accelerate the fight against hunger in the world and as part of its mixed

farming promotion campaign, SESURUDEV has in 2011 embarked on a new concept of CRASH COURSES

on specific animals and crops. In Bamenda, Cameroon, we have so far organised and delivered

crash courses that last for three days i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These 3-days crash

courses were organised for (1)Poultry Production and Marketing, (2) Pigs (3) Natural and

Chemical Fertilizers. We have also organised and delivered a one-day crash course on

rabbits.
Any person who is abroad who is interested can also be given the crash course

either in English language or in French. The course will be given through an e-learning

method using means like the Internet (email, attached mail, chating, webcam etc) telephone

and fax. The person abroad will choose if he or she wants the course to last for one week or

for two weeks. (Exceptionally it can be prolonged to last for 3 weeks but the cost may

increase). At the end of the crash course, we deliver a Certificate to attest that the

concerned is proficient and competent in that domain.
We can also deliver courses in other topics in livestock, pisciculture and

agriculture. Any person abroad who is interested should simply email us his desire to the

course.
The rationale is that there is an impending food crises in the world that is driving

up the prices of all food items. This may lead to food riots similar to what happened in

African countries including Cameroon in February 2008. We need to produce food in a very

competitive manner, in high performing modern methods using the latest technologies.
The primordial foundation is to start with a solid training concentrated on your particular

domain of interest. Whereas,many adults, who have the means and want to quickly invest and

make a lot of money on poultry or any other domain, do not have the time to go to the

university and be taught many other things which may not be of any use to him or her.

EVALUATION REPORT of the CRASH COURSE ON POULTRY PRODUCTION and MARKETING of 7/11/11 to 11/11/11

Self-Supporting Rural Development

In line with our 2011 plan, the fourth crash course on poultry production and marketing for the year 2011 was successfully held at our training hall at Tom Sawyer Square, Ntasen, Nkwen, Bamenda on 7/11/11, 9/11/11 and 11-11-11.
The course contents were the same 17 modules covered by our third poultry course that was held in September 2011.
Five participants attended. They were quite diligent and assiduous. Two of them were civil servants approaching their retirement while one was a Reverend Pastor. All of them met the bench mark for assimilation of course content and were all given Certificates of Attendance.
The trainees were greatly impressed with the course and expressed their elated feelings in writing at their end-of-course evaluation, extracts of which are as follows:
(1) Mr. Njei Emmanuel N. wrote: "I was very opportune to have heard the announcement of this course over the radio. I used to rear few birds but now I intend to try a bigger poultry farm. If the Government can give assistance to many people who have done this course, by the year 2015 we will not know where to keep birds".
(2) Mrs Muluh Regina Mezoh wrote "Excellent course. The material is very rich. The facilitator is really devoted. Government should encourage this course in order to reduce poverty and encourage people during retirement age".
(3) Mrs. Amohlon Anne wrote "My impressions are very good. Government should fund such courses, encourage farmers by loans and subsidize inputs. I wish to congratulate and thank the course organiser for a job well done".
(4) Mrs. Enoh Mary wrote "I have a very good impression. I recommend that many courses of this magnitude should take place. In this way many senior citizens will still be useful to the public and unemployment will reduce".
(5) Rev. Ekwo Emmanuel Jatoh wrote "It is a good course, down to earth explanations giving all relevant information needed for successful poultry farming. The course was flexible to do and had good notes for long term reference. It is advisable for all the unemployed and those seeking to increase their financial situation".

It will be held at the SESURUDEV Training Hall at Tom Sawyer Square Ntasen Quarter, Nkwen Bamenda via Below Foncha. Any interested person will pay a participation fee of 10,000 francs before the start of the course at 9 a.m. on 7/11/11. One meal everyday will be given and Certificates of Attendance will be granted. Unemployed youths and workers approaching their retirement age are particularly advised to do this course. Very often, people are asked to show proof of training before they are

It is always advisable to undergo proper training before rearing poultry. You will be taught in depth how to successfully rear broilers and layers including feeding and disease control. A good layer breed will lay 300 eggs in one year.

The entire public including students, unemployed persons, workers of the private and public sectors are hereby informed that SESURUDEV Association is organizing a one-day crash course on RABBIT REARING.
The course will be held on Monday 1-08-11 starting at 9 am. This intensive course will take place at the SESURUDEV Training Hall at Ntasen New Layout Quarter, Nkwen.
A participation fee of 1,500 francs only can be paid either on the day of the course or before the date at our office at Ntasen.
With very little capital, anyone, no matter the age or occupation, can rear rabbits either as part-time or as full-time and this will guarantee his entire family a regular supply of fat-free meat of very high quality.

The entire public including teachers, students and unemployed persons are hereby informed that SESURUDEV and the author of the book "Practical Poultry Production and Marketing" are organizing two sessions of crash courses on Poultry Production and Marketing.
The first session of the course will be held on Monday 6th June 2011, Wednesday 8th June 2011 and Friday 10th June 2011. The second session will be held on Monday 11th July 2011, Wednesday 13th July 2011 and Friday 15th July 2011. Each day, courses will start at 9 am and close at about 4 pm as they are crash courses.
The courses will be held at Ntasen New Lay Out Quarter, Nkwen Bamenda.
Any interested person should choose to attend one session i.e.either the June session or the July session. The closing date for the payment of the registration fees of
5000 francs, at our Office at Ntasen Nkwen, is Saturday 4th June 2011 at 5 pm for the first session of the course and Saturday 9th July 2011 at 5 pm for the second session.

In order to improve soil fertility, SESURUDEV is actively promoting mixed farming and the correct use of chemical fertilizers to increase productivity. This is through the writing and publishing of books on poultry and agriculture and the organization of short training courses.
Farmers are informed that SESURUDEV will organize a three-days crash course on Chemical and Natural Fertilizers to be held on Monday 9th May, 2011, Wednesday 11/05/11 and Friday 13/05/11 starting each day at 9:00am prompt.
The course will be held at Ntasen New Lay Out Quarter Nkwen, Bamenda. The closing date for the payment of the registration fee of 5,000 francs at our office at Ntasen Nkwen is Sunday 8th May 2011 at 5:00pm.
The subject matter for this very important course, meant for all farmers, will include: artificial fertilizers, compost manure, animal manure, green manure and agro-forestry.

EVALUATION REPORT OF THE POULTRY COURSE OF 25/02/11 to 12/03/ii

As planned, an intensive course on poultry production and marketing was effectively and successfully organized by SESURUDEV on the three successive weekends from
25/02/ 11 to 12 /03 /11, i.e. for six days. Fifteen trainees attended the course.
The objective for this course was to use simple pedagogic methods to impart comprehensive and concise knowledge to people who are interested to set up their own poultry farms. From the written remarks and evaluation of the trainees it is evident that our objective was largely achieved. The knowledge content of this course included the following modules or subjects:
1) Housing and poultry equipment norms;
2) Environment management norms;
3) Feeding Norms;
4) Basic principles of feed formulation;
5) Production performance norms and indices;
6) Hygiene;
7) Disease prevention programmes;
8) Poultry diseases and their treatment;
9) Biosecurity norms;
10) Record keeping;
11) Marketing of poultry products;
12) Prices and sources of poultry inputs in Cameroon.

The trainees who diligently attended all our courses and satisfied us during the
end-of-course evaluation were granted Certificates of attendance.

We wish to inform the public that the poultry course organised by SESURUDEV at NTASEN New Lay Out Quarter, Nkwen, Bamenda started last Friday as scheduled.

LATE COMERS ARE STILL BEING ACCEPTED. They can still register at our Office in Ntasen, Nkwen at any time before the next session of the course scheduled for Friday 4th March 2011 at 3pm. Catch-up classes will be organised for late comers.

We have today decided to further postpone the date for the registration for the poultry course to Thursday 24/2/11 at 6 pm. The starting date for the course remains unchanged at 3 pm of Friday 25/2/11.

SESURUDEV has a mission to make commonplace or vulgarise the most modern technical methods in livestock, agriculture or fish farming. That is why we wrote and published our poultry book which is now sold in bookshops all over Cameroon. That is why we have also taken the pains to also write two books on agriculture which we lack the funding to print. The books are "CONCISE PRACTICAL AGRICULTURE" Vol. 1 General Agriculture; Vol. 2 Special Agriculture. We badly need an Institution or a philantropist to help sponsor the printing of these technical books.

A token fee of 5000 francs is levied for the present six-days-course on poultry simply because we have not received any funding whatsoever from any source to help us finance the expenses incurred in organising the course. Any of our future courses can only be free if it is sponsored by either the Government, an organisation or even an elite.

AN INNOVATIVE MICROPROJECT PROPOSAL SUBMITTED

An innovative microproject proposal has been submitted for consideration by SESURUDEV to the UNDP SubProgramme of Poverty Reduction at the Grassroots. The title of the project is "8000 broilers reared by 40 young persons and women in 4 towns". The project concerns poverty alleviation and the provision of employment in poultry rearing to 40 young persons and women at the grassroots in 4 towns in the North-West region of Cameroon. THE PROMOTION OF MIXED FARMING is very prominent in the project as much emphasis is placed in the project on training in poultry and modern methods of sustainable agriculture.

After I have written and we have published "Practical Poultry Production and Marketing" and after I have just finished writing "Concise Practical Agriculture, Volume 1- General Agriculture, and Volume 2 – Special Agriculture", (the three manuals being the basic tools for our overall mixed farming campaign) we are now logically giving the opportunity to the have-nots to reap the practical knowledge and change their lives!
Our goal of helping to significantly reduce hunger and poverty in Cameroon is being seriously addressed in our latest project entitled:
"10,000 Broilers as Microcredits to 100 Farmers".
The 100 beneficiaries of this lofty project are young school drop-outs and jobless college graduates aged between 16 and 35 and women of any age in four rural towns in the North-West Region of Cameroon. Four hundred persons will first undergo four-day intensive practical training but just 100 of them will be the first set to be granted the microcredits in the form of 100 day-old-chicks each (along with the in-puts) to rear. In one year, each beneficiary will rear 5 batches of broilers of 6 to 7 weeks. They will refund the microcredits after one year, interest-free. Then, more microcredits will now be given to a second set of 100 beneficiaries as it is a revolving fund.
This is one of the projects which is listed in the Global Giving Open Challenge for September, 2010. The challenge is that for this project to remain in the Global Giving website even after 30/09/2010, we must raise at least $4000 from about 50 donors within this month of September 2010.

Global Giving Open Challenge

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT: 10,000 BROILERS AS MICROCREDITS to 100 FARMERS

(1) Justification and Beneficiaries
The unemployment crises being faced now by young persons is a serious cause for concern as each year about 250,000 more youths swell up the four million jobless young persons in Cameroon out of a population of 20 millions. Two-thirds of the extreme poor are women although they bear the brunt of food production.
This project aims at creating a source of livelihood to 100 jobless young persons aged 16 to 35 years and poor women of any age. Beneficiaries are situated in four rural towns (Batibo, Ndop, Jakiri and Bamenda) in the North-West Region of Cameroon.
This project is intended to significantly contribute to solve the acute problems of unemployment, hunger, poverty and malnutrition.

(2) Project Activities
We shall start by holding four-day practical training courses on poultry production and marketing in those four rural towns. About 400 young persons and women will undergo the training but just 100 of them will be the first lot of persons to be granted the microcredits in the form of 100 broiler day-old-chicks each (along with the inputs) to rear. The chicks and necessary inputs will be supplied to the beneficiaries where they are. SESURUDEV will do the technical follow-up. Each beneficiary will rear five batches of broilers in one year – the batches are duly separated by rest periods of 15 to 21 days.

(3) Long Term Impact
After one year, the beneficiary will refund the micro-credit, interest-free, i.e. the amount they had signed for when receiving the chicks. The refunded money will be used to buy more chicks and inputs which would then be supplied to a second set of 100 beneficiaries as it is a revolving fund. Before long, broiler rearing will be replicated by thousands of others in the community. The project is self-sustaining. As more and more persons get involved, the impact of the project in the reduction of hunger, poverty, malnutrition and unemployment will be felt in the entire region.

JOBLESS YOUNG PERSONS NEED TRAINING on the rearing of hybrid poultry

Kana is rearing a few birds without any training thus incurring much mortality which he does not know how to prevent! Broilers are ready for the market within 6 to 7 weeks and he can rear 5 batches in one year. The batches must be separated with rest periods of 15 to 21 days. If he rears just 100, he will gain a minimum of $US 42.2 within 7 weeks. This gain can be double if he makes the poultry feed and rears them himself. He will be taught disease prevention and how to make the feed at home.

SHOOTING TEN BIRDS WITH ONE STONE through the project "TRAIN 2000 CAMEROONIANS ON POULTRY and AGRICULTURE"

Up to ten main objectives or goals will be achieved or seriously tackled and a big impact made when the above-mentioned planed project of SESURUDEV goes operational! The planed training of 2000 Cameroonians in four-day short courses to be held in 20 towns situated in six regions in Cameroon will make a considerable impact on the following domains:

TRAINING MODULES FOR THE PROJECT "TRAIN 2000
CAMEROONIANS ON POULTRY AND AGRICULTURE"

SESURUDEV plans to soon organise 20 four-days short courses in 20 towns situated in six Regions of Cameroon during which 2000 Cameroonians will be trained on poultry and mixed farming. Each trainee will be given two manuals – one on practical poultry production and another on concise agriculture.
The training modules for the course will be as follows:-
Part I : Poultry Production
(1) Housing of the birds.
(2) The choice of hybrid breed and brooding chicks within the first 3 to 4 weeks.
(3) Management of the environment of the birds i.e. the temperature, insulation,
the ventilation and stormy weather.
(4) Feeds, feeding and water. Feed formulation without using any computer!
(5) Disease Prevention, routine treatment programme and respect of the
Biosecurity norms.
(6) Record Keeping and Exploitation Accounts.
(7) Performance Norms to work towards achieving.
(8) Marketing.
PART II : Sustainable Agriculture
(1) Choice of improved seeds and vegetative planting materials. Propagation methods and norms - nurseries and direct sowing/planting techniques.
(2) Soil qualities. Chemical fertilizers and their uses. Treatment and prevention of acid soils.
(3) Natural or organic fertilizers. The making of compost. Green manure.
Mixed farming i.e. the use of animal manure on crops. Organic Agriculture.
(4) Drip Irrigation and other methods of watering crops to increase yields.
(5) Cultural practices – crop rotation, intercropping, sequential cropping, relay cropping, mulching, cover crops, legumes, crop residues, thinning, pruning etc.
(6) Weeding. Herbicides & other agro chemicals. Natural disease & pest control.
(7) Agric mechanisation – the use of oxen and tractors.
(8) Conservation Agriculture.
(9) Alley Farming – using either Lucaenia, Calliandra or Gliricidia species.
(10) Harvesting, preservation and storage of harvests. Food losses.
(11) Special Agriculture – teaching the detail agricultural methods specific to two to four crops important in their area and chosen by the beneficiaries.

POULTRY PRODUCTION : THE BACKBONE OF THE MIXED FARMING CAMPAIGN OF SESURUDEV

Across Cameroon, SESURUDEV intends to launch a mixed farming and soil conservation campaign, the backbone of which is intensive poultry production!
SESURUDEV is promoting the use of poultry manure to replace part of chemical fertilizers which, when used alone over the years, render the soil acidic, spoils its structure and its capacity to retain water.
We shoot many birds with one stone by increasing the production of poultry whose manure will be utilised in order to increase the productivity of food and vegetable crops and reduce the quantity of expensive artificial fertilizers which are all being imported.
In order to kick-start the mixed farming campaign, SESURUDEV has published a manual entitled "PRACTICAL POULTRY PRODUCTION AND MARKETING" by Aloysius Njie Ajua. This book will be a training tool in the short training courses that SESURUDEV plans to organise in a number of rural and urban towns across Cameroon. Furthermore, SESURUDEV is now busy editing the second manual in the series called "CONSISE PRACTICAL AGRICULTURE" which will also be another useful tool in the short training courses.
To extricate Africans from the vicious circle of hunger, poverty and disease, we need a technological revolution in agriculture starting with the implementation of the Chinese proverb: "It is better to teach a child to catch a fish everyday instead of to give him a fish everyday"! It has been proven that the low economic development of Sub-Sahara African countries is linked to the very low productivity of African agriculture and livestock. Moreover, poultry production in these African countries is extremely low compared to other continents in the world whereas poultry is the easiest and fastest means of feeding the increasing population especially those in urban areas.

In pursuance of the mission of SESURUDEV to impart technical know how to the generality of the population through practical training on intensive agricultural and livestock production, The President of SESURUDEV, Mr Ajua Aloysius Njie, was of recent invited as the guest speaker on two different Saturday mornings in the popular radio talk show programme called "COCORICO" broadcasted by the most popular private radio station in Yaounde called Radio Tiemeni Scientu. This programme was also broadcasted over the Internet!

The aim of the live radio interview was a continuation of the public campaign to stimulate interest and persuade people in Cameroon and abroad to invest in intensive poultry production and crop agriculture i.e. to practice mixed farming. SESURUDEV is resolutely out to make a massive impact as the engine behind the technological revolution in the tropics by vulgarising modern agricultural technology, by demystifying tehnical knowledge i.e. by making the modern and latest technology applicable, accessible and commonplace to farmers and would-be farmers.

During the two radio interviews, the following important declarations were made (among the other topics discussed which are not mentioned here):
- The population was warned not to jump into poultry farming without any previous training as chickens are the most risky animal specie to rear.
- As such, people were advised to buy the book "Practical poultry production and marketing" by Aloysius Njie Ajua which is sold in many bookshops across Cameroon for a social reduced price of 3500 francs CFA as against the price abroad of 9500 francs CFA for which orders can be made through the Internet.
- A strong appeal was reiterated to both the private and public sectors to invest in modern intensive agiculture and livestock production in Cameroon in particular and sub-sahara africa in general.
- Revealed that SESURUDEV is finalising the writing and publishing of the book "Consise Practical Agriculture" as a key component in encouraging mixed farming and a logical follow up of the book on poultry -NB. the manure of poultry being the best organic manure! Thus, SESURUDEV repeated the appeal for funding to help us print the new book and make more subsidized copies of the poultry book.
- Again stressed that poultry production is the fastest and easiest means to provide cheap animal protein to satisfy the present demographic expansion at the time that the population of Africa is clocking one billion people - half of them being poor, hungry and and malnourished.
- Disclosed that there is a close link between the production of grains and that of poultry in a given country. So, the option of mixed farming which has successfully worked in Asia and in the USA is the answer in Africa. Revealed that 100 layer chickens can produce 5 tonnes of poultry manure which is enough to fertilize 1 ha. of a maize farm to be applied during the time of planting. Recommended that in about 8 weeks after planting, the corn should be applied 150 to 200kg NPK 20-10-10 or even Urea chemical fertilizer.
Intimated that this combined use of both the poultry manure followed by spotted application of chemical fertilizer can lead to an increase in the yield by three or more times!
- Also revealed that a farmer can also practise the poultry-fish farming integrated system whereby a 100m2
fish pond can be fed with 1kg dried poultry manure per day.
- Again emphasised on the high profit margins that farmers can make by rearing poultry be it broilers or layers.
- Once more urged private investors to create a poultry slaughtering and packaging factory in Cameroon. Advised that the Government can encourage this vital link of the poultry industry by advertising this possibility and giving such a company an initial tax exoneration of two or more years.

PRESS RELEASE - THE PROMOTION OF THE POULTRY INDUSTRY IN CAMEROON

On Monday 21st December, 2009, the President of SESURUDEV Association, Mr Aloysius Njie AJUA was the guest of the live programme called "Morning Safari" in the state-owned National CRTV Radio network. It is one of the most informative, most interesting and most useful programmes in the entire electronic media landscape in Cameroon apart from the CRTV national news or television programmes.

This public outing is squarely part of the grand project of SESURUDEV to substantially encourage both poultry farming and mixed farming in Cameroon for the targeted impact of millions of Cameroonians.

During the radio talk-show, the President of SESURUDEV who is also the author of a practical manual unprecedented in Cameroon entitled "PRACTICAL POULTRY PRODUCTION AND MARKETING", made the following important declarations:-
- Gave credit to the Cameroonian NGO called ACDIC for the successful campaign they organised, five years ago, against the dumping into the country of frozen chicken meat joints of doubtful quality;
- Praised the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries of Cameroon for successfully taking vigilant and effective measures in preventing the introduction of bird flu into the country. The success of the measures has consequently favoured the expansion of the poultry industry in Cameroon notwithstanding the very high prices of corn !!
- Urged that since we are now in a global village, cameroonians should endeavour to produce poultry in a very competitive manner in such a way that the products can be sold out at cheap prices to the common man ;
- Made a clarion call for the massive investment and funding on the poultry industry from both the private and public sources;
- Declared that Cameroon can effectively use the poultry industry to come out of our economic crises in a very short spell of time just by making massive investments in the industry ! That Cameroon has enormous potentials to produce enough poultry products for ourselves and sell the surplus to the neighbouring countries;
- In order to do this, the SESURUDEV President explained that we should produce poultry following the modern methods by respecting the acknowledged norms i.e. the husbandry norms, the prophylaxis norms, the biosecurity norms and the most modern performance norms or indices ;
- Explained that we have to, however, surmount the following constraints: (a) intensify poultry training by making widespread use of this book; (b) substantially increase the production of corn, rice and soya beans because corn is used in 40 to 70% of poultry compound feed and that the by-products of rice and soya beans are important feed ingredients; (c) urgently create or facilitate the creation of a poultry slaughtering and freezing unit in Cameroon;
- Revealed that intensive poultry production, which is done in accordance with the established norms, is a very lucrative endeavour and can provide employment to the thousands of our unemployed youths;
- Further disclosed that the minimum net profit for one broiler raised for only 6 to 7 weeks ranges from 200 to 400 francs cfa. That our research has shown that a farmer who produces 5 batches of 2000 broilers in one year (respecting a rest period between the batches of 15 to 21 days) will conveniently make a net profit of 284,000 francs cfa per month - provided of course if he or she is properly trained and the required norms are strictly followed;

At the end of the talk-show, the illustrious moderator of the crew, promised to in future invite the author of the book to come back to the programme and further educate the public on the outstanding potentials or opportunities of the poultry industry in Cameroon.

The book, which can be ordered from abroad through the internet at the price of about 9500 francs cfa excluding the cost of postage, is now available for sale in various bookshops in many towns in Cameroon for a social non-profit price of just 3500 francs a copy !!!

Development and poverty alleviation is a herculean task that requires the implication of everyone.
SESURUDEV is making a general appeal for individuals or organisations to help in sponsoring the launching of the book in Yaounde and to help sponsor the translation of the book into French. However, before doing that, we wish to first of all heartily congratulate His Excellency President Barack Obama for his reception in Oslo today 10th December, 2009 of the prestigious NOBEL PEACE PRIZE which he indeed fully deserves.

This is a logical culmination of the global campaign which SESURUDEV and others did resolutely and successfully make for him to be justly nominated.
We of the civil society earnestly hope that this globally recognised prize will further spur him to COURAGEOUSLY PURSUE his progressive policies on the environment, good governance and the empowerment of the poor.

It is common knowledge that each US citizen releases into the environment 40 times the harmful green house gases than what an African does and that, population-wise, the USA is still the heaviest producer of these gases. We also know that, as per country, China has overtaken the USA in causing this global problem!! For the above and other reasons, the rest of the world is expecting the USA to take its place on the driving seat and come up with serious proposals to significantly cut down the use of fossil fuels and also grant a big enough compensation to the poor tropical countries who are the greatest victims of this global warming phenomenon.

Climate change skeptics, who are against any steps to reduce green house gas emissions, can be equated to the slave owners of the 18th century!
We are calling on President, Barack Obama to step into the shoes of his mentor, the legendary President Abraham Lincoln, who brilliantly led his country with courage to fight a civil war against slave trade. Climate Change skepics are greedy people with vested interests like those slave owners of old. They need to be politely told that they are wrong.
They hide behind flimsy arguments or excuses to ask that people should ignore the present misery of a billion poor human beings and to risk a multiplicity of disasters especially to countries of the south not leaving out low-lying areas of the north like Holland, New Orleans and Japan.

Concretely our proposals are as follows:
1) Every country should create a parastatal or Government Agency in charge of monitoring climate change and the development of clean, green and renewable technologies. Enough members of the civil society should be among the members of the board of directors of such an agency.

2) The parastatal or Agency should receive and spend all the internal and external funding geared towards the development, use and promotion of green and renewable energy technologies.
3) The climate change compensation funding from abroad should include the actual setting up of factories located in the developing countries for the manufacture of the equipment and appliances of green or renewable technologies. People all over the world, including the poorest of the poor in the very remote villages, should leap-frog from the archaic coal-based energy use to the most modern renewable energy technologies.
This should be done in such a way that the prices will drop and the appliances are readily available in shops and stores across the countries as commonplace as mobile phones are at present. NB. The destruction of trees for cooking firewood will be greatly reduced (which is quite good for the climate) if the green technologies are readily available and financially affordable to both the rural and the urban poor alike.

4)Green Technologies which should be practically promoted and subsidized by the Agency should include:
(a)Micro- hydro-electric turbines to provide energy in villages that are out of the power grid as a decentralised system;
(b)Photovoltaic solar panels to provide electricity in homes and on public street lights;
(c)Solar thermal driers and heaters to provide heat to dry fish, cocoa or coffee beans etc.;
(d) Micro wind turbines for remote villages situated on hills or at the sea coast;
(e)Most modern hybrid rechargeable batteries for vehicles or home lighting;
(f) Promotion of the use of public transport systems in towns and cities that use as source of energy either compressed natural gas or a combination of solar energy and modern hybrid batteries.
(g) Biogas obtention from connections made from the septic tanks of homes or better still the setting up of biogas digesters to produce cooking gas from the manure of cattle, pigs or poultry.

5) Taxes should be paid by air transport and shipping companies as per kilometre travelled and the money put in the global fund for climate change to be controlled by the United Nations.

6) The price tag for one tonne of carbon released into the atmosphere should be increased and the carbon trading mechanism should be made more operational and fine-tuned or effective.

7) A percentage of vehicle windscreen licence tax should be collected by each government in the world and the money sent to the global fund for climate change. In this case, the windscreen licence tax should be increased to cover the cost of the global tax that will be agreed!!

People all over the world, should show a serious commitment to take real action to solve this serious problem in such a way that a real impact is made to reverse the trend of the impending calamities!!

The need to promote intensive poultry production in the tropics.
The population of poultry in Sub-Saharan African countries is far less important than it is in the other tropical areas of the world. The only exception to this rule is the West African country, Burkina Faso, which has the highest density of fowls per person in Africa. A great majority of Africans obtain their animal protein sources from the meat of ruminants and fish. People elsewhere in the world eat more than three times the number of eggs eaten by Africans. As the human population is increasing together with the rising urbanisation in Africa, there is a greater and greater need for intensive poultry production to feed the more mouths with poultry products which provide protein of high biological value. In the present context, whereby the prices of both beef and fish keep on increasing, African people should focus on solving the malnutrition problem by actively encouraging intensive poultry and pig production.
The present extensive method of cattle production is no longer adequate to satisfy the animal protein needs of the growing population because of global warming, desertification, absence of pasture improvement, overgrazing, droughts, cattle rustling and kidnapping in cattle rearing zones. Fish supplies have also continued to dwindle (due to over-fishing by industrial trawlers and the destructive by-catch of very young unwanted fish) thus driving up fish prices. If the poultry industry is well streamlined, poultry meat can easily be far cheaper than cow meat. The short fall of animal protein to feed the people can very quickly be met by rearing broilers in just seven weeks time..
South-East Asia is the region where the domestic fowl and ducks were first domesticated and these species have always been popular in Asia. Without poultry, this very densely populated region would not have been able to provide enough animal protein for their teeming billions of people – as Asia has over 40% of world poultry and 85% of world ducks. No animal specie has undergone scientific research and genetic improvement up to the domestic fowl! Hybridisation techniques that were used on corn and rice have been applied to poultry, leading to the production of highly performing hybrid lines patented by genetic companies. The productivity of the layer hybrids quadruples that of the local breeds of hen while the feed conversion capacity of broilers triples that of the local breeds of cock!
In order to solve the problems of hunger and malnutrition, in tropical Africa, the intensive production of both poultry and pigs should be promoted in a holistic manner which should also include the active promotion of the large-scale production of maize and soya beans. The advantageous symbiotic relation between the production of both poultry and these grains cannot be over-emphasized. Properly decomposed and covered poultry droppings are the best organic manure while corn and soya beans are by far the biggest ingredients used in the compound feed of poultry. It is no coincidence that the regions of the world that have succeeded to cheaply produce poultry in their millions are the same regions that are also the very high producers of grain in the world. The highest crop yields are obtained from the combined use of both the appropriate artificial fertilizers together with a completely decayed poultry manure on crops.

a) Would-be beneficiary members should form a Beneficiary Branch of at least 40 members and elect their own executive made up of a President, a Treasurer and a Secretary.
b) Membership is for a renewable period of 6 months from the date of reception of membership dues.
c) The Branch President (or the Secretary or the Treasurer) should have a functioning e-mail address and/or a functioning telephone number.

CONDITIONS FOR REGISTRATION AS A PARTNER GROUP

i) Any existing group of any number of persons (either a social, cultural, developmental or economic group) who are also interested in our activities can register as a partner group for a renewable period of 6 months starting from the date the membership dues are received by SESURUDEV.
ii) The partner group should choose one item in section one and two items in section two and inform SESURUDEV at the time of registration.
iii) The membership dues to be paid will depend on the number of members in the partner group.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

a) SESURUDEV believes on fast action; so the fastest means of communication should always be used.
b) SESURUDEV will promptly acknowledge receipt of any dues received.
c) After the 6 months period, the group can renew its membership/partnership by paying further dues as will be determined by SESURUDEV. In this case the group can choose other three items of their interest.
d) Contact SESURUDEV by email or telephone SMS giving the names and email addresses and/or telephone numbers of the President, Treasurer and Secretary of the group. Then the total number of active members of the group. The location of the group i.e the Division, Subdivision, town or village and the quarter of the group.
e) State the three items the group is interested in.
f) The group will be in charge of all arrangements concerning the venue for the training courses. i.e. if there is no free place, the group will pay for the hall and the chairs to be hired for the 2 or 3 days of the short course. The group may look for low-cost places like village culturall halls, community halls, meeting halls, council halls, church halls,, classrooms etc.
g) In relation to the information received, SESURUDEV will inform the group the amount they should pay as beneficiary members or as a partner group. However, the training will be free if by chance any funding organization or a philanthropist sponsors the particular training session or project.
h) SESURUDEV will fix the dates for the training courses or follow-up sessions and inform the group executive members. This will be done after the membership/partnership dues have been received.

SESURUDEV is a non-profit, non-governmental, apolitical welfare association or movement concerned with sustainable rural development and the urban jobless poor. SESURUDEV strives to bring practical solutions to raise the standard of living of the poor wherever they live in a manner that creates a very big impact (i.e. to affect many millions of people) and in a sustainable manner. In line with our mission to effectively tackle the root causes of poverty, hunger and misery in the world, I have written and SESURUDEV ASSOCIATION is in the process of publishing the following two books:-
(1) PRACTICAL POULTRY PRODUCTION AND MARKETING (A manual on the production and marketing of broilers, layers, quails, ducks, geese and turkeys).
(2) CONSIZE PRACTICAL AGRICULTURE.

Written in clear, simple language, the two books are tools by which SESURUDEV intends to use in order to impart technical know-how to farmers and would-be farmers in a bid to empower them to adopt modern methods to increase their food production and productivity. The books have been written in such a way that they can be used all over the world.
The manuscripts for the books are ready but we need money to cover the cost of printing them! Should the sales price be expensive then our aim would have been defeated. We intend to sell the books at very affordable or subsidised prices which are equivalent only to the cost of printing, handling and distribution. The funds will be used as a revolving fund; as the the money obtained from the sales of the books will be used in order to print more books. Being exceptionally functional (which will assure its popular appeal) the books, will in due course, be translated into the french language as more people across the world will need it.
Whenever any of our future short training courses are sponsored by any organisation, the books will be given out to participants free of charge!
Poultry production is chosen as the fastest means of solving the malnutrition problem in the tropics. Moreso, poultry manure is unquestionably the best organic manure; so, its use in MIXED FARMING sustainable agriculture is indeed essential. The poultry book has 10 chapters and many more sections and subsections. Anyone who peruses the book will be able to rear the various species of birds without any hitches and be able to himself manually formulate the compound feed (mash) for his or her particular specie and breed of bird.
The book on agriculture is in two parts. PART ONE is "GENERAL AGRICULTURE". It comprises the basic scientific knowledge and the modern agricultural practices common to all or most crops - e.g. chapter 1 deals with the promotion of integrated conservation agriculture. Chapter 2 is on the natural and artificial fertilizers. Then other chapters follow. PART TWO is entitled "SPECIAL AGRICULTURE for individual crops". This part provides vital technical information and the perculiarities on 31 of the most popular tropical vegetable and food crops. It fluently gives information on the nutritional quality/uses, the favourable soils, the favourable environmental/climatic conditions, the husbandry practices and the expected average yields of each individual crop.
As essential tools for vulgarisation, the books will produce a far greater IMPACT in the lives of the poor than single production projects - reference the pertinence of the chinese proverb which goes as follows "teach a person to catch a fish everyday than to keep on providing a fish to the person everyday".
In the preface of the book on poultry, I wrote on 'THE QUALITY OF HUMAN CAPITAL' which needs to be technically empowered and harnessed in order to generate wealth.

PRESS RELEASE - A CALL TO CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS TO FELICITATE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA FOR HIS POLICIES ON ENVIRONMENT, GOVERNANCE and EMPOWERMENT

SESURUDEV is requesting civil society organisations all over the world to send well-meaning messages of felicitation and encouragement to His Excellency President Barack Obama of the USA for his courageous and progressive policies on the environment, good governance and the empowerment of the poor.

In pedagogy, when a child is doing well in class, the parents and teachers should congratulate him and urge him to do even better!
If President Barack Obama courageously takes concrete action on the above three topical issues, as indications are showing, then he ought to be nominated to win THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE!
Before he came to power, the US policies on the environment were indeed retrogressive. The US rejected the 1997 Kyoto Protocol which even was an insignificant 5.2% reduction of green house gas emissions.
Bold proposals made by the EU, in the 2007 UN Conference in Bali Indonesia, for 25 to 40% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions for the industrialised countries to be spread over from now to 2020, was again rejected by the US government i.e. before Barack Obama came to power.
Given the fact that it is the US which produces the greatest greenhouse gas emissions in the world - gases which are the cause of global warming and the devastating effects of climate change - the world expects the US to take the lead and show the good example. We are in a global village and nobody should play the ostrich game by 'burying his head in the sand'.
The forth-coming global environment meeting, scheduled for Copenhagen Denmark in December 2009, should be a milestone whereby the US, led by President Barack Obama, should make an outstanding come-back to the fold by this time accepting to sign a comprehensive and greatly significant treaty. The treaty should not only spell out the targets and timetable for gas emission cuts but should also provide some billions of US dollars to the poor tropical countries in Africa, South America and South-East Asia
that still have rain forests so that they can be able and willing to manage and preserve them.
This time around, we are hopeful because President Barack Obama has come up with many policies in the US that encourage green technolgies and renewable energy.

The address that President Barack Obama delivered in the Parliament in Accra Ghana is unprecedented, frank, diagnostic, surgical and very progressive. It is clear in that speech that the near absence of good governance and real democracy in Africa has been and still is a serious handicap to development and the much talked about alleviation of poverty and hunger in Africa.
He outrightly condemned the holding of rubber stamp or rigged elections in Africa. This structural absence of any real possibility of democratic alternance increases poverty and the 'exportation' of illegal immigrants to Europe and the US!! Other fall outs from bad governance include endemic poverty, civil strife, inter-tribal wars, acute urbanisation and the resultant increase in the crime wave.

Another worse phenomenon is now taking root in Africa whereby children are made or favoured to take over power from their despotic fathers when they die!!! The peoples of Africa are indeed helpless in the face of all these usurpations of their human rights to freely chose or change their leaders. In a continent that corruption, mismanagement and embezzlement is rife, any Head of State that has stayed in power for more than ten years has the wherewithal, if he likes, to create a system of profound political patronage that can eventually culminate in a de facto monarchy or dynasty. There is cause for concern in Africa whenever a President starts by appointing his child as Minister. An act like this was done in Europe without their citizens raising their eyebrows but that cannot be the same in Africa where only about 5 out of 53 countries organise truly free and fair elections. For example: elections cannot be seen to be fair whereby all the state
machinery, high state functionaries and embezzled state funds are mobilized to ensure that the incumbents perpetuate their regimes in power. Violent rioting that sometimes occur in Africa after elections are indicative of rigged elections.

If African countries completely computerize the election process exactly as is done in India and do not use fraud in the registration process, then some advances in democracy can be made. However, ready-made excuses will be given that there is no money to purchase from India the cheap computers that have been designed specifically for elections. This response will only be an alibi or smoke-screen.

Civil Society Organisations, worthy of their salt, should join President Barack Obama to condemn corruption, embezzlement, mismanagement and wasteful spending as these ills negate or cancel development efforts and make mockery of the UN Millenium Development Goals and the so-called aims of NEPAD. That is precisely why some years ago in an earlier Press Release of SESURUDEV entitled 'The coefficients of importance of the various fetters of development' we singled out BAD GOVERNANCE as the overwhelming stumbling block to development.

Past G8 meetings, before this last one, usually ended up with promises to provide development aid to countries, in general terms.
We are convinced that it was the presence of Barack Obama in this last G8 meeting that was held in Italy that influenced the CHANGE OF POLICY to the future granting of development aid to empower the poor peoples of the world so that they can do agriculture and generate their own income.
The impact on development will be far greater if these new policies are effectively implemented in such a way that civil society organisations and rural organisations are indeed empowered both financially and technically.
The big question is: 'will President Barack Obama be the William Wilberforce of the 21st century?'. Time will tell if the rest of the world will be receptive to his policies as the British Parliament accepted the plees of William Wilberforce and passed the law banning the odious slave trade.

In a country that there is good governance, there is more accountability and the empowered citizens will make their own priorities.
In Maputu Mozambique, African countries had long agreed to allocate 10% of their national income on agrculture but since then they were allocating only 2 or 3% to agriculture. They were now caught up by the food crises and consequent food riots as a consequence!!
If priorities are put right, more money would be allocated to agriculture and the tarring of farm-to-market roads instead of great expenses on arms, prestige projects, high-rise buildings and festivities.

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT 'AGROFORESTRY PROMOTION AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE'

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION
For some 5 years now, the harmful effects of climate change is a cause for concern in the North-West Region of Cameroon where 80% of the population depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Almost every crop farmer practices rain-fed agriculture.
However, climate change phenomena (irregular rains and tornadoes) occur during each rainy season which drastically reduces crop yields bringing about famine to families who did not diversify their crops from maize which is the staple crop. When some farmers plant early, they go through many sleepless nights only to experience that rains start to fall more than a month after the expected date. So these farmers have to replant their grains or cocoyams.
Far worse is that at the period when crops like corn or beans need most of their water to grow ( at flowering stage ), that is the time rain fails to fall for 3 weeks, as it occurred this June 2009. At the wake of the global food crisis, farmers have bent down seriously to work but their efforts may be in vain due to the vagaries of the weather. The following circumstances have only worsened the situation : (a) Demographic expansion, urbanization and increased use of fossil fuels from second-hand vehicles from abroad. The population has increased from 1.5 million to 3 millions; (b) Deforestation. The region is mostly grassland but the few natural forests are being cut down to make way for farms, charcoal or firewood ; (c) Erosion. Conventional farming methods with high ridges lay bare the soil to rain erosion and erosion from very strong winds ; (d) Land degradation arising from overgrazing ; (e) Bush fires caused by graziers and hunters of rodents and
(f) Fires made by farmers in a traditional method called ''ankara'' whereby vegetative matter is almost entirely covered by soil and burnt ( which also destroy the soil ).
The fires, deforestation, charcoal making and cooking with firewood release CO2 which only exacerbates global warning and climate change.
Practical proactive measures should be adopted to counter the present precarious food security situation in order to avoid a reoccurrence of the very violent strikes against high food prices that were witnessed in Cameroon at the last week of February 2008.
In the present circumstances the economic gains from trees are higher than the gains that can be obtained from crops alone by 42% to 180% .

PROJECT GOALS
SESURUDEV believes on empowering people so that they can acquire new technologies that can enable them face up to the challenges of food insecurity and misery. The project aims at : (a) Organizing 4 workshops in the North-West region of Cameroon precisely at Bamenda, Kumbo, Nkambe and Wum (b) Sensitizing the population through radio interviews and leaflets on measures to adopt in order to mitigate climate change. The overal aim is to transfer technical know-how to the generality of the population on the need to adopt agroforestry, conservation agriculture including mulching and campaign against bush fires and fires made by farmers. Farmers will be persuaded to adopt both agroforestry and mixed crop-livestock farming.
The advantages of planting trees either around plots, in an orchard or in between crops in an alley farming technique will be highlighted. Also to be vulgarized in the workshops are (a) The need for vegetable farmers to adopt the diggings of wells, treadle pumps or moto-pumps to irrigate their crops including drip irrigation techniques ; (b) How to make compost and use animal manure to fertilize crops in addition to the use of the prunings from leguminous trees as mulch or green manure to fertilize crops, prevent erosion and increase water retention in the soil.

HOW THE PROJECT WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS
Trees serve as a carbon sink ; so the planting of trees mean that more carbon dioxide (the most important green house gas), will be absorbed from the atmosphere and trapped. Leguminous trees improve on soil fertility by fixing atmospheric nitrogen in their roots in addition to the absorption of carbon dioxide by photosynthesis. The leaves of these trees also serve as fodder for various livestock species.
Examples are Calliandra calothyrsus (which can also be used as firewood), Leuceana leucocephala and Gliricidia sepium. The project will also promote the planting of a medicinal tree like Prunus africana whose bark is in high demand for the making of remedies against sterility and prostrate cancer. Fruit trees and nut trees produce fruits and nuts which are globally recommended as invaluable sources of vitamins, mineral and other nutrients. Marshy marginal plains, which are permanent mosquitoe breeding grounds, can be made useful through the afforestation with eucalyptus trees to serve as sources for timber, poles or firewood. Conservation agriculture (which involves planting without tillage or making ridges, the use of cover crops or mulching and the practice of crop rotation ) is acknowledged as a good practice to preserve carbon in the soil. The campaign against bush fires and farm fires will raise public awareness and discourage many perpetrators from
continuing with the malpractice.
We shall also vulgarize the use of improved wood stoves that use only 25% the amount of wood that is traditionally used for cooking.
Tress protect biodiversity, prevent desertification, drought and land degradation and regulates water cycles. The public will be explained how green house gases from fires, vehicles, rice paddies and cattle cause global warning and how trees trap down the CO2 gas.

SESURUDEV (SSRDCM) ASSOCIATION INTENDS TO CARRY OUT A CAMPAIGN FOR THE ADOPTION OF AGROFORESTRY AND INTEGRATED CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE in the North West Region of Cameroon as counter measures to fight against the adverse effects of climate change noticed in the region in the past five years.
SSRDCM will soon organise 4 workshops in the region i.e. in Bamenda, Kumbo, Nkambe and Wum.

POULTRY AND FOOD/VEGETABLE MANUAL and SHORT TRAINING COURSES

A recent FAO publication states that 4.6 million Cameroonians are suffering from hunger out of an estimated population of 16 millions. the price of chemical fertilizers are quite high. That is one of the reasons that caused the price of food items to double in recent years thus driving more people to misery the effect of which culminated in the bloody riots in Cameroon that occured in the last week of February 2008.
The tricky sweet/bitter situation is that neighbouring countries have been importing food items from Cameroon as their people have a higher purchasing power.

To counter this hunger/food crises, that affects almost the entire Africa, SESURUDEV intends to encourage and vulgarise the practice of mixed farming of both poultry and food/vegetable crops , particularly the use of poultry manure to fertilize crops and food/fruit trees.
To effectively vulgarise the technical know how, I have written a manual on intensive poultry in the tropics and on food/vegetable production which will be of much use in the SESURUDEV training courses and seminars.
However, we are badly in need of money to print the manuscript in enough copies to make an impact. The price of the manual has to be affordable to farmers and school dropouts who are the targeted group. The manual will also be very useful for technical and professional schools and colleges.

Sponsors and funding agencies are requested to assist us with the printing of the manual so that it is sold at almost the cost of printing. The proceeds obtained will be used in printing more books and this will serve as a revolving fund.

Technical knowledge from this book will be extensively used in the training seminars that SESURUDEV intends to undertake throughout Cameroon.Participants will know how to intensively produce broilers, layers and all other bird species. People will also learn improved methods of producing crops like tomatoes, corn, cassava etc. We also encourage agro/forestry ie the planting of leguminous trees whose leaves can be used to feed livestock.

Mission and objectives

Self-Supporting Rural Development is a non-governmental, non-profit, apolitical welfare organisation concerned with rural development and the urban jobless poor. It was created by volunteers who are striving to bring practical solutions in order to raise the standard of living of the poor where they actually live. The association undertakes a mission to contribute to poverty alleviation through concrete action by reaching out to the poor who are more or less dying of hunger, malnutrition, starvation, AIDS or just managing to eke out a living without any iota of hope.

The objectives of Self-Supporting Rural Development as spelt out in the Articles of Association, the objectives are as follows:

To provide practical training to farmers to increase production and productivity;
Provide back-up services and follow-up contacts to the farmers which includes measures geared at improving the accessibility of farmers to all manner of farming in-puts;
To organise seminars/workshops on agriculture, livestock and pisciculture;
Involvement in Agro-forestry, Ecosystem conservation and environmental protection;
Integrated Rural Development. This includes measures to promote health and education in rural areas;
Concerned with other concrete measures against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. This includes micro credits, micro-grants, women economic empowerment seminars and microprojects, promotion of mixed farming, diversification and dissemination of improved seeds and seedlings of crops and fruit trees from research stations.

The envisage goals of Self-Supporting Rural Development are:

Sustainable Rural Development.
Improve the standard of life of the rural poor families with special concern on the development and status of women.
Drastically reduce rural-urban migration and the intrinsically-linked and more serious problem of youth migration to Europe and the brain drain.
Elimination or considerable reduction of hunger, malnutrition and abject poverty while ensuring food security.
Reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Increase production and productivity while ensuring diversification of production and mixed farming.
Reduce unemployment by self-employment even in the urban areas for the jobless.
Increase environmental protection.
Promotion of good governance.
